I highly recommend using the methods in the book “Oh Crapy! Potty Training.” I did part time elimination communication from birth so I started potty training at 20 months with good success but this book will lead you through the best method and custom designed tips for whatever age you child is.
The day I started potty training, I put the puppy pads down in the main play area and had some new exciting toys already out to keep both of us occupied and somewhat contained on the puppy pads to protect the carpet. I also had some baking actives set up in the kitchen which had linoleum floors. I wanted easy clean up! Besides the book, a mini potty, and a seat reducer, I don’t think you really need anything else to get started. I did commando with just pants for a month afterwards so I didn’t start using cotton training underwear for a while and then after that phase we moved to regular cotton underwear.
I had the BabyBjörn Smart Potty in the living room and eventually it moved to the main bathroom next to the toilet. I love the OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Portable Potty and My Carry Potty as car potties. I will put a disposable diaper in the bottom of both to help absorb liquids while we are on the go which makes things easier for me.
Where are you and your child in your potty training journey?
